How to play Forty Thieves Solitaire

Open Forty Thieves Solitaire, check the instructions and begin a round. Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Look at what changes after your first action. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Two decks, ten columns, single-pass stock, no recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Move one card at a time; build down in the same suit. Empty columns accept one card.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

A club 5 can move onto a club 6, but a whole run cannot move together. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
